Hitachi Seaside Park; Like Walking Into A Dream

This week is Golden Week in Japan. It is a week long springtime holiday. Everyone has the time off so everywhere is crowded. For Monday I decided to head up North to Hitachi Seaside Park. It is one of the most beautiful parks in Japan. With it's most famous attractions being their flower arrangements. For the spring they have a very special arrangement. They completely cover a hill with blue nemophila flowers. It was a surreal sight. Approaching the hill it looked like a large crowd of people walking out of reality and straight into a dream! Like the sky never ends, going on forever. Crowds of people just touring heaven. To add to the surreal nature of the moment was there were swarms of these black wasp looking insects, but they didn't bother anyone. Like little diabolic fairies.

The rest of the park was amazing too. They had large fields where people just lounged. A desert dune area. And a whole amusement area, with rides and attractions.

Heading back to the train station I ended up sitting next to some American tourist. They had come to visit Tokyo but had the day to explore on their own and decided to come all the way out to Ibaraki. They too really enjoyed the park, and it was nice to speak English with some friendly faces. Before returning home I detoured to the Aeon Mall in Mito. There they had some really fun figurines on display. It was a terrific day!
